Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi
Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi is an established vocalist of Hindustani classical music of the “Rampur Sadarang Parampara” (Rampur Gharana). She is the disciple and daughter in law of Vidushi Sulochana Brahaspati and great musicologist, K.C.D. Brahaspati. Known for her lecture demonstration on Raga series on CEC UGC, Dr. Yajurvedi is also a regular artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. At present, she is the Head of the Department of Music at Bharati College, University of Delhi.
Dr. Sarita Pathak Yajurvedi is the daughter in law of great the musicologist Acharya K.C.D. Brahaspati & Vidushi Sulochana Brahaspati. She is an established vocalist of Hindustani classical music of the “Rampur Sadarang Parampara”(Rampur Gharana). Born in a culturally active family of Uttaranchal, Dr Pathak Yajurvedi started learning classical music at the age of five years from Pt. Shanker Nath Patil, an eminent musician from Karnataka. Later, she continued her training in Hindustani Music with the renowned classical vocalist, Vidushi Sulochana Brahaspati, under the Guru Shishya Parampara.
Dr. Pathak Yajurvedi has received a large number of medals and prizes for her performances right from her childhood. She received the Sahitya Kala Parishad Scholarship from Delhi State and the National Scholarship and Daulat Ram College merit scholarship from Delhi University during her student days. She completed her M.Phil. in music and Ph.D. from Delhi University for a “Comparative study of classical and vocal music with the folk music of Uttaranchal”.
She has presented papers and spoken on numerous topics at various seminars, including a national seminar organized by the international forums of India’s heritage, the Kalidasa academy of Sanskrit, Music and fine arts, a National seminar at Delhi University on “Well-being of child issues and challenges” and a seminar organized by “Uttarayani”, Delhi, on the folk music on Uttaranchal.
She has performed – and has been widely applauded – in India and abroad, including at the 5th Yuva Mahotsava organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad Delhi, Indian International Rural Cultural Centre, Delhi, Acharya Brahaspati Sangeet sammelan, Chandigarh, Pauri Festival, Pauri (Uttrakhand,). Vimla Devi Foundation Nyas, Ayodhya Bharat Bhawan, Bhopal, homage to Smt. Indira Gandhi at Shakti Sthal New Delhi, India International Centre, New Delhi,Summer Festival of India International Centre, Vaggeyakar Series of IGNCA and I.C.C.R. Programme in Mauritius to name a few.
She has produced Radio Serials for National Channel and Archives of All India Radio. She has lent her voice for Doordarshan, T.V. Documentaries for Discovery Channel and Salam Balak Trust.
Dr. Pathak Yajurvedi has been a regular artiste of A.I.R and Doordarshan as a classical vocalist. She has an album to her credit titled “Yeh Naina” and three DVD’s called “Teach Yourself”. Her book — “Uttrakhand Sangeet evam Sanskriti’ – was released by the Chief Minister of Uttrakhand, Shri Ramesh Chandra Pokhriyal “Nishank”. As cultural secretary of “Uttarayani”, she has been organizing functions, promoting the regional folk art of Uttaranchal, training young artists and performing vocal recitals of classical music. At present, she is the Head of the Department of Music at Bharti College, University of Delhi.
